The interest of the Mujahidin of Al-Qaeda in Africa is an old one but has progressed slowly. Al-Qaeda has always been aware of the importance of this huge continent and since its emergence attempted at �feeling its pulse.� Al-Qaeda has carried out there many operations and had a presence there. This all proves the awareness by Al-Qaeda of the importance of this region from many dimensions, as seen also by observers.
Looking at the formative period of Al-Qaeda we can see how many of Al-Qaeda's military operatives and members came from the various regions of this continent. Some of the most famous operatives came from North Africa: Egypt, Libya, Algeria, and Mauritania. It points out the Jihadi expansion in these areas, and the expertise and skills of the adherents of Al-Qaeda doctrines in a continent where there is a lot of scientific progress. We can also find that the Jihadi doctrines, which are spread in Africa, are stronger than in many other regions. The peak of modern Jihad has emerged mostly in some of the countries of this huge continent.
We can find the following operations that reflect the focus of the Mujahidin on Africa:
� Many operations against Western targets such as in the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
� The big campaign in Somalia where they managed to deport the American occupier.
� Al-Qaeda has been active in the Sudan for a period of time, where it was involved in military operations against the in"
• After September 2001, Al-Qaeda and its supporters carried out number of attacks, such as in Mombassa, in Jerba/Tunisia, in Casablanca, and in Sharm al-Sheikh and Sinai.
The Mujahidin have had a prominent role in North and East Africa, which has so far ended with the recent declaration by Osama bin Laden of a war against the Crusaders that plan to open a front in Darfur/West Sudan.
There is no doubt that Al-Qaeda and the Mujahidin perceive the significance of the African regions for the military campaign against the Crusaders. Many people sense that this continent has not yet found its proper expected role and the next stages of the conflict will see the presence of Africa in the battlefield. Among the most significant advantages of Africa over other regions we can find the following:
• The Jihadi doctrines are spread in many African countries: Egypt, Algeria, Sudan, Mauritania, Morocco, Libya, Somalia, Eritrea, and Chad. These countries and others produced many Mujahidin who irrigated the lands of Islam with their blood and sacrificed themselves for the sake of Allah. This Jihadi expansion has old roots in many of the African countries.
• The political and military conditions in most of the African continent, the broad weakness of its governments, and the internal fighting and corruption of these regimes, ease the ability of the Mujahidin to move, plan, and organize themselves, far from being seen. They enjoy in Africa easier operational abilities than in other countries, which have effective security, intelligence, and military capacities.
• This general weakness brought about numerous situations of tribal conflicts in many African countries, and hotfired civil wars that produced groups and individuals willing to heroically sacrify themselves. If these people could be channeled into the line of the Jihad they will have enormous effect in the defense of Islam and the Muslims.
• The wars and conflicts in Africa provide a gold opportunity for the Mujahidin to easily move between different African countries, without any surveillance, and in most cases need only the finance.
• The above mentioned conditions provide huge amount of weapons and military equipment easy to obtain and in most cases much cheaper than in other regions. Weapons are found all over Africa in larger numbers than in any other continent. In many African countries there is no house without a variety of weapons for either offensive or defensive objects.
• The geographical position of Africa is unique and may ease the way for the Mujahidin to take advantage of it, especially that Africa is linked to other continents. It is easy to operate from it through the straits, rivers, and seas, and the continental and maritime routes. If the Mujahidin take advantage of this geography it would have an immense effect on the campaign against the enemy. The Crusaders use this region to transfer weapons and equipment, they control the straits and seas, and use these routes to shift oil to the rest of the world. Targeting these routes will be fatal for the Crusaders, and will harm their efforts and energies.
• We should also bear in mind that Africa is also one of the closer routes to Palestine, which might serve as direct and indirect support for this conflict. The violent conflict in Darfur against the Crusaders will no doubt create the emergence of the Jihadi trend in Egypt, which will effect the general atmosphere in Egypt, which is a neighbor of Palestine and maintains solid links to the Jews and the Crusaders. It might ease the shift of the Jihad into the regions close to Palestine. It might promote the struggle in Sinai and serve as a motive for more people to join the Jihad. Alongside the growth of the Jihad there will be developments on the doctrinal field from targeting only the Jews in Sinai to targeting them within Palestine, through smuggling weapons and warriors and carrying out operations. It might take a relatively long period but it is the time to start hotfiring a circle of fire around Palestine from every side. Iraq is also close to Palestine, and the wars there support at present the Jihad in Palestine as well, and will turn in the near future into a direct support and practical involvement in this Jihad.
• One of the prominent advantages of Africa is the general condition of poverty and the social needs in most countries. It will enable the Mujahidin to provide some finance and welfare, thus, posting there some of their influential operatives.
• Many of the African people have broad education and scientific progress. If they join the ranks of the Mujahidin they could contribute a lot to the Jihad.
• Most of the people of this continent are Muslims. The most famous Islamic trend, which the Mujahidin can approach, is the various Sufi groups. The Sufis have no doubt a huge presence in Africa, more than in any other continent. Many Mujahidin in other countries have learned that working with the Sufis is easier than working with any other trend, such as the Shi`is or the Communists. The Christian presence in this region is weak, they are not able to attack the Muslims, and if they did so it would be easy to defeat them.
• There are in Africa nests of continuing conflicts between the true Muslims and their rivals, such as in Somalia, Algeria, or the Christians of Southern Sudan. There is potential of the renewal of the conflict in Egypt, especially if the government goes on with its oppression as a reply to the operations. It might lead to an explosion, whose signs are already seen.
• Another advantage is the links to Europe through North Africa, what eases the move from there to carry out attacks.
• Last advantage is the fact that Africa is rich in economic sources, oil and raw materials. This is very useful for the Mujahidin in the medium and long term.
In general, this continent has an immense significance. Whoever looks at Africa can see that it does not enjoy the interest, efforts, and activity it deserves in the war against the Crusaders. This is a continent with a lot of potential, advantages, and exploiting this potential will benefit the Jihad a lot. It will promote achieving the expected targets of Jihad. Africa is a fertile soil for the advance of Jihad and the Jihadi trend.

Al Qaeda, Power, Imperialism and the Significance of 911
Up until last week I had not seriously considered why the 911 tragedy occurred or even the thought that the perpetrators could have a platform that could be deciphered or understandable. However last week CNN did a special on Al Qaeda and said one statement that made the significance of the 911 tragedy blaringly clear to me and the why suddenly did not look to be the work of an unorganized band of militants but the clear plans of master strategists.
The statement that CNN made was something to the effect of, Al quada claimed that one of the reasons that 911 happened was because the United States was blocking their attempts to spread Islam and thus their power base into certain parts of Africa. Suddenly a shirt that I had seen Mumar Quadafi wearing several years ago flashed into my mind and that was a shirt of the continent of Africa which for me seemed rather strange since European scholars have gone out of their way for at least a century and a half to separate North Africa from the rest of Africa by calling it the Middle East. Obviously certain quote on quote “middle easterners“ do not consider themselves Middle Eastern but Africans. When this distinction is clarified the attack on the World trade Center can almost be seen as retaliation for daily attacks that occur and are sometimes incited by the United States for the resources that Mother Africa has.
As I write this post I see flash backs of one of my professors passionately discussing the divestment of Liberia of rubber, he discussed the 100 year contract that Good Year tire company had to take rubber from that particular country. He was livid! As I write this I remember the uranium that is mined from certain countries in Africa and the world has decided that “Africans” are not responsible enough to even possess it and use it in the case of Iran even for the use of energy. I see the Oil in many parts of Africa that is taken from the ground and many citizens of these countries still live in poverty. Everyone knows about the diamonds and gold that Africa is dripping in, yet daily we are bombarded with images of rural, hopeless, poverty stricken individuals who we must assume by looking at them that they have no legacy or means to support themselves but they do. If this logic is followed the attack on Washington D.C. and the world trade center becomes eerily clear and surprising that the United States had managed to escape such an attack before.
After looking at the CNN program on Al Qaeda I did a Google search on al Qaeda 911 and Africa and I came up with a host of sources stating that the Taliban and Al Qaeda are establishing themselves and making strides in Sub Saharan Africa and are providing hope to the hopeless something that many of these articles state that European countries and the United States have not done. While the United States is now trying to make up for some of its neglect of Africa many theorists are speculating that it may be too little too late and a United Africa may come in the guise of terrorists who eventually evolve into a legitimate government and may possibly create one Africa which surprisingly even the countries in the so called Middle East may agree too, in some form or fashion, and Israel could possible play a role in this new alliance also. As one writer wrote considering Israel, while Israel and the rest of the Middle East are fighting like cats and dogs in Northern Africa, further south in Africa they are brothers in their collusion to smuggle diamonds out of Africa which many state funds terrorists operations.

In the past day I have posted articles related to the Closing of the LA Urban Garden issue. I have had to revise my opinion at least once on the issue and have thought a lot about the Urban Garden and would like to officially way in on the issue since I am more informed than before.
First of all this issue is not a racist issue as some of the activists would like to call it. As a a stretch it could be a racist issue based on the fact that with urban development of lofts, old buildings, and the general trend of society it would seem that an Urban Garden would be a desirable asset for most neighborhoods in an urban area, the failure to see the potential of the urban garden to society and overall significance and positive impact on the neighborhood it serves might be a racist issue. I know that plenty of urban dwellers probably all over the city would welcome the chance to have a plot of land for their very own garden. I don't know what the criteria is but I'm sure the city could make space available on fourteen acres of land for anyone who wished to have a garden.
In any case the failure to see the positive impact for the community and the city as well as the international model that could be established for an urban garden within a major technological and entertainment analytic zone could be viewed as racist and classist but the bottom line is this the land was taken from the original owner. It was land that he did not want to give up so he deserved it back and whatever he wants to do with it is his right to do. However if the city were thinking forward they would go ahead and purchase the land from the original owner for a negotiated price and use the garden as an international model, chamber of commerce attraction, and as a starting point for developing the surrounding areas which I have know clue as to the status of it now but if the original owner wants to build a warehouse on the land, and the city wanted to build an incinerator on the land, I can only assume from my urban studies training that the area would have to be bordered by an impoverished area or neighborhood that could truly benefit from a city garden that could potentially be opened to all residents all over the city.
Anyway an update has come up regarding the issue, the links is LA Times and I do like to keep my writings so I'm not going to delete the above paragraphs. Apparently the Trust for Public Land and Annenburg Foundation have offered the owner 16 million dollars for the property and he has refused it because of antisemetic remarks made towards him and his family by the gardeners in front of his house. Due to the long history of antisemitism and the world and the actions taken because of it this is perfectly understandable. Personally I think one concession that could be offered is to name the garden after the owner as well as to open the garden to the whole city not just poor residents, this might a go a long way towards closing the deal. Personally I am going to call the LA mayors office and make the above suggestions.

"At Roslyn, as at most schools, cellphones must be turned off during class. But one morning last week, a high-pitched ring tone went off that set teeth on edge for anyone who could hear it. To the students' surprise, that group included their teacher.

Three Detainees Who Committed Suicide Are Identified
This article discuses the recent suicides of three detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I think the strangest thing about the whole thing is that U. S. Officials have offered to intern the bodies at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I think the people working there must be crazy or they just don't get it the three men committed suicide because they did not want to be there. I hope their countries which they do have, in the least step in to claim their bodies and hopefully locate their families if not they should not be interned in the United States.

Seattle Come On "Diversity is Important"

The above link references a case before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court in a nutshell will be deciding if quotas improperly penalize white students. One of the cases involves a Seattle mother who's child was not chosen for the Seattle School District's free for all lottery for spots in any of the districts High Schools. The District used race to determine tie breakers. Considering the whole racial makeup of the state of Washington, a 4% population of blacks when I lived there 9 yeas ago. This is an issue brought before the court of a rather nasty and narrow minded parent.
To put this in context when I first made the decision to move to the northwest 9 years ago, it must have been in response to some strange electromagnetic pull calling to many but evidently the call was not for me because when I arrived there I was so shocked to see that when visiting the downtown district I was the only black spot on the street, and when visiting the state capital of Washington I knew I must have been the only black spot in the whole city. This was so shocking to me that while visiting the capital, My one year old child at the time and I immediately made a bee line for the library so we could look at the last census to figure out just how "white: Washington was. The state of Washington has less than a 4% percentage of blacks. I think it was slightly higher for Seattle but not too many points higher. I have to admit the people were "cordial". However they were not "really" too familiar with blacks and what to think of them as far as I was concerned. I felt like some Fox that the neighbors realize is out in the woods and can't get rid of him so they walk around uncomfortably aware that there is a black person around.
From this I examine the context of the Seattle case before the Supreme Court, Personally I think that this is not even an affirmative action case, I think it is a diversity case. This student evidently met the criteria for being admitted in one of the local Seattle Schools so there was no action being taken to equalize a human being or their status because of past wrongs which would be affirmative action. The case to me amounts to an attempt by the Seattle School district to diversify a student body that needed to be diversified. As an adult who basically attended segregated education for the majority of my life. It is a pleasure to say in my early years k-4 I attended schools with Asians and Whites and know somewhat of their character because they were my class mates for four years. It is a pleasure to know that my exposures to whites just did not amount to the one after my fourth grade year who started crying because one of my black classmates told him "if you get all A's, you better not walk home because I'm going to beat your ###." It's a pleasure to know that had that been said to my pre-k to fourth Asian classmate who several years ago I saw on a PBS special as a doctor, who also made straight A's would have responded with no I'm going to beat your ### turn around and let me do it. It's a pleasure for me to know that stereotypes are wrong and to know that no two blacks, Asians, or whites or the same from my childhood experiences. I would hate to have lived in any Racial Ivory Tower and not know that people are different, I would hate to live in an ivory tower and think that all whites are prejudice, all blacks are loud, all Asians are quiet, etc. For me to have lived in such a racial tower would truly make me an extremely one dimensional individual which I have no desire to be.

"IT''S THE ECONOMY STUPID"
You can always tell when an election is up ahead the Republicans try to trot out some polarizing social issue: gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia, and the merits of a living will. This election season I am not having it. I don't care who anyone marries, again for the fourth election season republicans are pulling out the Gay Marriage issue.
The republican government has put on the table a definition of what marriage is and is not. From reading the bible we know that homosexuality has been in the world since the dawn of man, and probably was right with the dawn of man as they tried to figure out what the various openings on a persons body were for. Though this bill may pass it seems awfully unconstitutional to tell adults what they can and can not do. I don't care how many snippets of film are passed before my eyes of same sex couples kissing each other in the mouth on the nightly news with my two children watching and my praying that they will not see it, which this time they did not because they were busy harassing each other. I am not going to change my position. I don't care who two adults choose to marry.
I am also aware of the enormous contributions that homosexuals have created in all societies since the dawn of time and I know they are not going away. As for George Bush publicly taking a stand against homosexuals it is quite surprising since he has refrained from this in the past. It is disturbing that Mr. Bush has decided to take a stance on this issue considering the Nazi past of his ancestor Prescott Bush. The Nazis wanted to exterminate homosexuals, Jews, Gypsies, the handicapped and basically any and everyone that was not pure perfect Aryan. It has always been strange that the Japanese entered on the side of the Nazis, however I am convinced that if the Nazis had won the war, I am pretty sure they would have found concentration camps to put the Japanese in eventually.
In any event President Bush and his Republican colleagues are obviously leaning towards sexual intolerance and already have totally taken our country down the road of religious intolerance. I am totally ashamed of this country and what it stands for in this time of history. I don't think we've had such corrupt people in office since the twenties who were so obviously greedy and clannish. All they do is sit around and think ugly things and ugly thoughts about groups of individuals.
Instead of taking the time to do something productive like work for lower gas prices, make sure that adequate policies are put into place in case of natural disasters, create jobs, create a workable immigration policy, analyze how the answer to 911 is; well we just had so many reports of incidents happening we just ignored some of them, and this was one of them. can be an acceptable answer and then trying to dismantle our secret service, when as I've said many times they did their job, the break down was at the white house. Obviously if the white house does not have time to read national security warnings they should refrain from trying to legislate what marriage really is.
Finally I would like to say I don't care what issue is flashed before my eyes this election season I will not be voting for Bush. Honestly I fell for it last time, stem cell research and fetuses was just something that I am totally against, as well as I am very much pro-life in all directions. However I don’t care what issue is flashed across my face, an invasion from Mars :)[anything is possible with this administration], the coming back of the ice age, an invasion by giant bugs, whatever I am not voting for a Republican for president, I most likely will vote for our Republican governor Sonny Purdue, but I will not, shall not, and won't vote a Republican into the office of the President probably ever again. I am ready to get behind and volunteer for any democratic candidate at this point. Just get the Republicans the hell out of the white house.
